Curriculum
The four district comprehensive high schools and the alternative and adult education programs offer a comprehensive and balanced curriculum based on California State Standards and Benchmarks. The district offers a rigorous curriculum to meet the needs of a student population from which over 95% of graduates continue their education at colleges and universities throughout the United States. All schools in the district received six-year Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditations.
Standards and Benchmarks
The District has adopted core academic content standards in all curriculum areas. Our Core Content Standards are the basis for the development of courses of study, the adoption of instructional materials, and the development of standards-aligned assessments in the student performance assessment system. Our Courses of Study have also been revised and adopted in virtually every department in the past few years. These documents provide direction for content, time frames, textbooks/instructional materials and grading guidelines.
Assessment
The Acalanes District implements a comprehensive assessment system which includes multiple measurements that evaluate student achievement, clarify and communicate individual student progress and provide data for program improvement.
In addition to establishing standards and benchmarks for each subject, the District and schools have developed rubrics and assessments to communicate what we expect students to learn, and to communicate each student's progress to parents. Among the instruments utilized are state and national tests.
