Artificial Intelligence
A foundational understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming essential for college and career readiness, and the Acalanes Union High School District (AUHSD) is committed to helping students develop the skills necessary for effective and responsible use of AI.
Student Access to AI Tools within the AUHSD Network
As part of the District’s efforts to foster AI literacy, students have access to select AI tools through their school accounts. This access is being accompanied by ongoing lessons and activities focused on effective and responsible AI use.
Students have network access to two AI tools:
- Gemini – Google’s large language model
- NotebookLM – Google’s research, analysis, and content-generation tool
The school-managed versions of these tools include enhanced data-privacy protections and content filters not found in the general consumer versions. With teacher guidance, students will be able to use Gemini and NotebookLM for appropriate academic tasks such as research and individualized academic support.
Resources and Ongoing Student Support
School and District administrators are available to discuss AI use in AUHSD and to address any questions or concerns parents/guardians may have about the use of this technology in our schools. The following resources provide additional information about the use of AI and other educational technology in the District:
- AUHSD Artificial Intelligence Guidance: Developed by staff from all school sites, this guidance is an important resource outlining the role of AI in our schools.
- AUHSD Governing Board Policy on Artificial Intelligence: Adopted on September 3, 2025, this policy establishes a framework for integrating AI into the District.
- AI in AUHSD: Building Student Capacity: A presentation to the AUHSD Governing Board (December 17, 2025) detailing the District’s approach to AI and plans for student access.
