District English Learner Advisory Council

The Acalanes Union High School District (AUHSD) is committed to ensuring that every English learner (EL) has the support and resources necessary to excel and contribute to a global society. Central to this commitment is the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC), a collaborative body that brings together parents, guardians, and district staff to advocate for the academic and linguistic success of our students.

Purpose and Responsibilities

The DELAC is required for any district with 51 or more English learners and serves in an advisory capacity to the AUHSD Governing Board. The committee’s primary focus is to ensure our programs align with research-based practices and state and federal regulations.

Key responsibilities of the DELAC include:

  • Program Planning: Advising on the development and update of the English Learner Master Plan (ELMP) and the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP).
  • Needs Assessment: Assisting in conducting district-wide assessments to identify and bridge gaps in EL services.
  • Policy Review: Reviewing student reclassification procedures and evaluating the effectiveness of parent notification systems.
  • Goal Setting: Establishing district-wide objectives for English learner programs to promote rapid English acquisition and academic achievement.

Join Us

We believe that strong family-school partnerships are essential for student success. By participating in DELAC, families provide critical input that shapes our instructional strategies, including Structured English Immersion (SEI) and both Designated and Integrated English Language Development (ELD).

We encourage all families of English learners to become active participants in our committee meetings. Your voice is vital in creating an inclusive and equitable environment where every student, regardless of linguistic background, can thrive
