Unified Sports

“On the field, we are teammates; off the field, we are friends.”
What is Unified Sports?
Unified Sports® is a program that brings together students with and without intellectual disabilities to train and compete on the same athletic teams. Built on the principles of inclusion, teamwork, and respect, Unified Sports provides meaningful opportunities for students to develop athletic skills, build friendships, and participate fully in school life. By promoting shared experiences and equal access, Unified Sports helps create a school culture where every student feels valued and connected.

Unified Sports in AUHSD:
In AUHSD, two of our high schools—Miramonte and Acalanes—participate in Unified Sports. At each site, Student Athletes and Student Partners train and compete together, building meaningful relationships, developing skills, and experiencing the joy of teamwork. Students take part in weekly practices and compete in scheduled games against other schools throughout Contra Costa County. Each season concludes with a celebratory team dinner where participants are recognized as athletes and awarded their varsity letters. Traditionally, AUHSD Unified Sports teams compete in soccer during the fall, basketball in the winter, and track and field in the spring.
