Community Partners

A student's success in the working world depends on the collaborative effort between the student, school, and community partner/employer.  Through support from the WorkAbility 1 program, students receive vocational and career assessments, training and work experience.

Through the use of our Supported Employment and Job Shadow programs, AUHSD partners with various employers in the Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda and Walnut Creek communities to provide students with work experiences that assist students with the transition from school to work.  Current partners provide students with exposure to the retail, food service, grocery, fitness and wellness, and grounds maintenance industries.

The following is a partial list of employers who have participated in the WorkAbility supported employment program.  If your business is interested in learning more about our program or providing a job shadow student experience, please email workability@auhsdschools.org.

Work experience assists students with the transition from school to work, allowing students 16-22 years old to stay in school while developing strong work readiness in a safe work environment.  Through support from the WorkAbility 1 program, students receive vocational assessments, training and work experience.  They also gain self-esteem, receive worksite supervision and continuing education.

Work experiences offer on-the-job training with no employer costs.  Employers receive a pool of prescreened workers who are ready for training and are supervised by District job coaches.  Student wages and liability insurance are provided by AUHSD.  Job shadow experiences are tailored to student career exploration interests and are one-time on-site experiences with a local employer where students gain an overview of the business or career.
