"The Music of Beethoven: A Celebration of the 250th Anniversary of his Birth" -   4 classes

Musicians throughout the Bay Area—indeed, around the world—will be performing works by the towering composer in 2020. In anticipation of upcoming concerts in Rossmoor and elsewhere, this course will focus on representative works being given in Walnut Creek, San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley, among others. Hear why Leonard Bernstein proclaimed “Let’s Face it: Beethoven is the Greatest Composer who ever lived.” Hyperbole or not, many music lovers would agree with Bernstein’s enthusiastic assessment. Lectures will be illustrated with recordings from Mr. Lowe’s extensive library of CDs.

Steven Lowe provides program notes for Seattle Symphony, Seattle Chamber Music Society, the University of Washington’s President’s Piano Series and International Chamber Music Series, and the Omaha Symphony. Steve serves on the board of the Rossmoor Chamber Music Society and writes their program notes.
