PREPARATION for College Level Statistics
Statway is special sequence of courses designed to teach mathematics skills that are essential for a growing number of occupations. It provides students with an alternative to the traditional algebra-based mathematics sequence. This preparatory course at Acalanes Adult Education is designed to prepare students to transition to Diablo Valley College and successfully complete MATH-144 - Statway II, which is college-level and transferable to the university. Students must successfully complete both sessions (069422 and 069433) in order to the pre-reqrder to meet the pre-requisite required for MATH-144.
STATWAY - Preparation for Math-144 @ DVC*
54 hours lecture/54 hours laboratory per term, Note: TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculator required This course introduces the concepts of probability and statistics with requisite arithmetic and algebraic topics integrated throughout. STATWAY satisfies the math requirement for an Associate Degree. It is also intended for students who wish to transfer in humanities or social sciences fields. Topics include data collection, organization and graphical interpretation of data, qualitative and quantitative data sets, measures of central tendency and measures of dispersion, bivariate data and scatter plots, linear functions and their graphs, nonlinear functions and their graphs, and linear and exponential/logarithmic models. Learning strategies for success with an emphasis on study skills, resource acquisition, and maintaining a positive perspective towards learning are also discussed and applied. Non credit class.
