Message to Graduates

May 8, 2020

Dear ACIS Eagles!

Congratulations to the Class of 2020! The academic and extracurricular accomplishments of this class are worthy of celebration. The current circumstances only strengthen our school’s commitment to honor the achievements of the seniors. Throughout these last few weeks, there has been significant uncertainty, but our commitment to graduating our seniors remains unwavering. I am excited to announce that all five schools in the Acalanes Union High School District will hold commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2020 during the first week of June. ACIS Commencement will be held on Thursday, June 4th at the Acalanes High School Campus.

The following school sites will host their commencements during these specific dates:
  • Miramonte High School, June 1
  • Campolindo High School, June 2
  •  Las Lomas High School, June 3
  • Acalanes High School, June 4
  •  Acalanes Center for Independent Study, June 4th

The commencement ceremonies will be held on campus and will follow a format that allows for tradition, celebration, and adherence to safety protocols related to social distancing. Many aspects of the graduation will be recorded in advance, while preserving the tradition of in-person diploma acceptance is essential. ACIS’s ceremony will include the following:

  • Official Welcome
  • Student and Staff Speeches
  • Artistic Selections
  • Certification of the Class of 2020
  • Presentation of Diplomas
  • Ceremonial Changing of the Tassel

Due to social distancing guidelines, students and their families will not be on campus for every facet of the ceremony. To ensure proper social distancing, students and their immediate family members will be invited to campus during a specific timeframe to participate in a diploma presentation. Professional videographers will film every component of the ceremony and present it via a live webcast. This webcast will be recorded and available, in a condensed format, after graduation. Photographers will also be onsite to capture the moment.

I will work closely with ACIS staff as well as Acalanes High School Staff to plan and facilitate the ceremonies. As the expectations for maintaining safe social distancing evolve, I will continue to collaborate with Contra Costa Health Services and local officials to ensure that we are following the most current guidelines.

Please look for follow-up communication detailing ACIS’s commencement ceremony schedule. We look forward to celebrating the Class of 2020 with you in June!
