Coronavirus (COVID-19) Preparedness
Dear Del Valle Education Center Community Members,
While much of the information with regards to preparedness seems to be consistent across various news sources, I wanted to reach out to inform you about specific steps we are taking at the Del Valle Education Center to remain healthy.
- Protocols for Sick Students or Staff: We are encouraging all community members who may be sick to remain at home. In the event a student or staff member becomes sick at school, we will assist that person in getting home. We will follow all directions from the CDC with regards to any quarantine measures that are directed, if necessary.
- Watch for Symptoms: Our District school nurses will be vigilant in treating our students and staff who may arrive at school demonstrating symptoms relating to COVID-19 (fever of 99.5 or higher, cough, and shortness of breath). They have been receiving information from the medical community and will continue to remain up-to-date with the latest information.
- Education and Awareness: We have posted signage throughout the campus informing students and staff on best practices for maintaining health. These include: washing hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; covering coughs and sneezes; avoiding touching eyes, nose, and mouth; and avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
- Cleaning Protocols: Our custodial staff is receiving new direction from our District Office to change cleaning patterns to focus on touch points and ensuring that these are frequently cleaned. Classrooms have hand sanitizers and we will be monitoring restrooms throughout the day to ensure they are properly stocked with soap and paper towels.
As we navigate COVID-19, it is critical we work together, show each other grace, and avoid dangerous stereotypes and rumors. Let us work together to keep our campus healthy.
