•  Special Education and Auxiliary Services

    The District provides high-quality education for all students, including those with disabilities. All individuals with disabilities have the right to receive a free and appropriate public education (FAPE). The District provides special education instruction and services in accordance with the Federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Students with disabilities are placed in the least restrictive environment that meets their needs. AUHSD offers the following programs:

    Learning Centers/ Instructional Support Program
    provides supplemental instruction in a small group setting. Students work to meet their IEP goals, increase academic performance, develop learning strategies and learn advocacy skills for success in their mainstream classes.

    Learning Intervention Center

    provides direct instruction in a self-contained setting for academic subjects such as English, Math, History and Science. Students work to meet their IEP goals in the following areas: academics, behavioral/social and transitional.

    Service Specific Class
    provides direct instruction in a self-contained setting for academic subjects such as English, Math, History and Science. Students work to meet their IEP goals in the following areas: academics, behavioral/social and transitional.

    Related Services
    are supplementary services related to the students’ identified disabilities. Examples are speech and language services, counseling and services to the hard of hearing or visually impaired.

    Adult Transition Program
    provides individualized support for qualifying young adults with disabilities aged 18-22 years of age. Eligibility is determined by the IEP team. Students work to meet their IEP goals in the following areas: independent living, career/vocational and community involvement.

    Individual Transition Plan/ Transition Services

    is a coordinated set of activities for a student with a disability to facilitate their movement from school to post-school activities, including postsecondary education, vocational education, integrated employment (including supported employment); continuing and adult education, adult services, independent living, or community participation.

    WorkAbility I
    is a state funded school-to-work program that provides comprehensive pre-employment training, employment placement, and follow-up for school students in special education who are making the transition from school to work.
