Welcome to the Acalanes Union High School District!

It is my privilege to lead the Acalanes Union High School District (AUHSD) staff in our unwavering commitment to providing the highest quality high school education for all students. We value a relevant and stimulating college and career preparatory curriculum, rich extra- and co-curricular opportunities, robust support services, and a school culture that fosters a strong sense of belonging, ensuring each student enjoys an optimal high school experience.

The District serves approximately 5,500 students across five high schools: Acalanes High School, Campolindo High School, Las Lomas High School, Miramonte High School, and the Acalanes Center for Independent Study. Each school underwent a self-study and accreditation review in 2023 with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, achieving the highest accreditation term—a testament to our steadfast dedication to strategic and continuous improvement at all our high school sites.

Our comprehensive high schools are undergoing significant reforms in systems, structures, and instructional delivery to enhance student learning and experiences. The curriculum continues to evolve to align with student interests, support college and career readiness, and challenge all students with rigor and relevance. Wellness Centers at each school site support students' overall high school experience, sense of inclusion and belonging, and mental health. We implemented a new school day schedule several years ago that includes longer instructional blocks, time for targeted intervention, support, seminars, enrichment, expanded teacher collaboration and a later start time.

The District adopted its Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) for 2024-2025 on June 5, 2024. This three-year plan addresses State and District priorities through actions to achieve the following four goals:

    1. Ensure that every student has access to high-quality educational opportunities and attains college and career readiness. (High-Quality Programs)
    2. Identify and implement policies and practices that eliminate opportunity gaps. (Equity & Access)
    3. Provide safe, engaging, and inclusive classrooms and school sites that support the social-emotional growth of every student. (School Climate & Culture)
    4. Recruit, develop, and retain innovative, collaborative, and effective certificated, classified, and administrative staff who prioritize student well-being and success. (High-Quality Staffing)

These initiatives are made possible through the tremendous support of our community. Local parcel taxes provide essential revenue to maintain high-quality programs, including advanced elective opportunities and the 7-period option for students, academic counselors, college/career support and library services. Education foundations and parent clubs enable additional elective opportunities, support services, and enriching educational and school opportunities. State funding alone is inadequate for high-quality schools; thus, local support empowers our schools to offer exceptional educational opportunities to our students.

Thank you for your support as together, “We educate every student to excel and contribute in a global society.”

    Sincerely,

    John Nickerson, Superintendent
