Meet our Instructors in the Fitness Department

  • JEAN McGRANAHAN - FITNESS

Yoga has been both a passion and a way of life for Jean for several years! She will never forget her first yoga class ... having sustained physical injuries, Jean literally came crawling into a yoga class with two broken toes and stitches in her hand. She never looked back. Jean started practicing yoga regularly, and soon it not only helped her physical body, but transformed her mind and spirit. she decided to obtain formal training as a yoga instructor, and started a second career as a yoga instructor/yoga therapist. Jean McGranahan was born in Colorado, and loves the outdoors. She likes to trail run, mountain bike, ski, trek, rock climb ... and the list goes on! She has three "grand-dogs," whom she adores, and feels very lucky to spend several weeks in France each year. Yoga has kept her body healthy, and allowed her to enjoy life to the fullest. Jean is a certified "yoga geek" and loves to talk about all things yoga. If you wander into one of her classes, you will often find Jean's students and she are laughing together in class! Sharing the benefits of yoga with others is one of Jean's greatest joys! Her teaching philosophy has always been "I am both the teacher and the student, and it is an honor that we are walking down the yoga path together." It is very important to her that the "physical" aspect of the yoga practice is done in a smart and enlightened manner, and this knowledge is incorporated into her teaching. Jean is trained as a yoga instructor, yoga therapist, and in physical therapy. She has taken several courses in structural yoga, and structural yoga therapy, and many course hours in anatomy. This knowledge helps her guide students to develop a safe yoga practice, with the goal to practice yoga for many years to come.
