An upper-intermediate French course focusing on communication, comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary. Classes will incorporate verbal, written, and listening activities. Materials used include a grammar book, short stories, audio, and video clips. The principal book used in this class is entirely in French and heavier on cultural reading and audio/video of native French speakers than in other grammar books. Grammar lessons will be supplemented with a different required grammar book. This is a highly interactive and discussion-heavy class, so willingness and readiness to participate and volunteer is a must. A textbook is required. Many of these guests have studied French for numerous years in various classes. This class is conducted entirely in French with an emphasis on perfecting their spoken and written French by using a French grammar book consistent with this more advanced level. A large amount of time is spent on verbal communication to allow guests to speak about their interests, activities, and current events. We are also reading a French novel. New guests are welcome. Advanced French is conducted in French and will take guests to a higher level of verbal communication by using more complex grammar topics and colloquial expressions. The first half of the class focuses on interactive grammar exercises and the second half of the class includes group discussions, vocabulary building and analysis of contemporary French short stories and their authors. In addition, the guests work on their listening comprehension and pronunciation with the help of audio visual activities such as French news clips, recorded dialogues, French cultural youtube clips and the famous French "dictées".
