    The list below comprises the merit-based aid offered at some of the Western, public universities that Acalanes students apply to most often. Please use this list as a quick reference to compliment the detailed scholarship research you are doing on each university's website.  Each school changes it's policies year to year so be sure to confirm with the individual college.  This information is from 2019-20.

    Additionally, this list indicates if a school participates in the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE),  a program that offers a reduced tuition rate of 150% of resident tuition at participating four-year colleges outside of California.
           
    STATE SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP AND WUE OPPORTUNITIES APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
    Arizona University of Arizona Arizona Excellence Awards (for out of state applicants)
    -Scholarship opportunites range from $6,000 - $18,000 annually based on GPA and test scores.
    -$6,000-$8,000 award for 3.0-3.25 GPA with a 22-25 ACT score, 3.75 GPA with a 1390 NEW SAT provides a $16,000-$18,000 annual scholarship.

    No WUE (except for Mining Engineering students).
    While test scores are not required for admission, they are required for scholarship consideration.
    Arizona Arizona State University WUE Award
    -WUE programs are limited to select majors at the Downtown Phoenix, Polytechnic and West campuses (see ASU website for list). WUE is not available at the main campus in Tempe.
    -Requires GPA of 3.00 or higher in competency courses or have an SAT of 1110/ACT of 24 (no writing portion) or higher.

    New American University Scholarship -- Nonresident
    -Scholarship award amounts vary based on student's academic record. See the scholarship estimator to estimate award amounts, https://scholarships.asu.edu/estimator.
    No additional application required.

    All applicants meeting eligibility requirements will automatically receive the WUE rate.
    Arizona Northern Arizona University WUE Award
    -Californa students pay the rate of 1.5 times the cost of in-state tuition (over $8,000/year less than out-of-state tuition).

    Blue Award
    -Requires 3.0-3.49 high school core class GPA and test scores of at least 19 on the ACT and 900 on the SAT (math/verbal only)
    -Award provides $3,000 per academic year
    Selection: 3.0-3.49 high school core GPA and test scores of at least 19 on the ACT or 900 on the SAT (Math and Verbal scores only)
    -Renewal criteria requires students to maintain a 2.75 cumulative GPA

    Founders Non-Resident Gold Award
    -Requires 3.5-4.0 high school core GPA and test scores of at least 19 on the ACT or 900 on the SAT (math/verbal only)
    -Award provides $4,000 per academic year
    -Renewal criteria requires students to maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA

    Note: Blue and Gold Awards stack on top of the WUE Scholarship Award.
    While test scores are not required for admission, they are required for scholarship consideration.

    New freshman and transfer students who enroll at the Flagstaff campus will pay the same tuition rate for 4 years.
    California California State Universites (CSU) Middle Class Scholarship
    Available to students with family incomes and assets up to $156,000. Students whose families earn between $104,001 and $156,000 per year may be eligible for a scholarship that covers no less than 10% and no more than 40% of statewide tuition and fees.
    -Maximum scholarship amount of $1,644 per year.
    -Scholarship amounts are released to students in July or August.
    -Scholarships based on family income/assets, other sources of aid from Fed or State, and size of applicant pool.
     
    California University of California (UCs) Middle Class Scholarship
    Available to students with family incomes and assets up to $156,000. Students whose families earn between $104,001 and $156,000 per year may be eligible for a scholarship that covers no less than 10% and no more than 40% of statewide tuition and fees.
    -Maximum scholarship amount of $3,690 per year.
    -Scholarship amounts are released to students in July or August.
    -Scholarships based on family income/assets, other sources of aid from Fed or State, and size of applicant pool.

    Cal Grants
    No additional scholarship application required beyond the filing a FAFSA by March 2nd.

    Cal Grants
    -Require submissions of a certified grade point average with the CA Student Aid Commission.
    Colorado University of Colorado Boulder CU Boulder Scholarships
    -Students can apply for scholarships through their MyCUBoulder portal. Scholarships are highly competitive and award criteria may include academic merit, financial need, extracurricular activities, leadership, and/or other requirements.

    Automatic Consideration scholarships
    -Students will be automatically considered for the following merit-based scholarships when they apply to the university:

    Chancellor's Achievement Scholarship
    The Chancellor's Achievement Scholarship is available to out-of-state students who are in the top 25% of the admitted nonresident class at CU Boulder.

    Presidential Scholarship
    The Presidential scholarship is available to out-of-state students who are in the top 1-3% of the admitted nonresident class at CU Boulder. Your admissions application must be submitted by January 15 to be considered for this scholarship.

    Arts & Humanities Merit Scholarship
    The Arts & Humanities Merit Scholarship is awarded to incoming resident and nonresident freshmen who applied and were admitted with a declared A&H major (from the list of eligible majors).
    Apply for CU Boulder scholarships through MYCUBoulder portal between October 1 - February 15.

    Students will automatically be considered for the Chancellor's Achievement Scholarship, Presidential Scholarship and Arts & Humanities scholarship when they apply.
    Colorado University of Colorado Colorado Springs WUE Award
    -Provides savings of approximately $5,500/year.
    The WUE tuition rate applies to certain majors. Check school or WUE website for details.
    No additional application required.
    Colorado Colorado State University WUE Award
    -The current annual estimated value of the WUE award is $9,561.

    Merit-based Scholarships
    Non-resident merit-based Presidential, Provost's, or Dean's scholarships are available for students with a 3.3-4.0 gpa and either 25-33+ ACT or 1200-1350+ SAT. Annual scholarships range from $5,000 - $10,000. Awards cannot be combined with WUE.
    No additional application required.
    Apply for admission by February 1 for priority WUE consideration
    Idaho Boise State GEM Scholarship
    -Must 3.6 GPA and ACT 26+ or SAT 1240+
    -Scholarship waives the entire full time nonresident portion of tuition for out-of-state students. GEM Recipients are still responsible for resident fees; this represents a savings of approximately $14,450/year for 4 years.

    WUE Scholarship
    -Must have 3.2 GPA, 1060bSAT or 21 ACT or higher

    WUE & GEM Scholarship
    -Admission application deadline for consideration is December 15
    Montana Montana State University WUE Award
    -Highly competitive and a very limited number of WUE Awards.
    -In 2016, MSU WUE average award recipient had a 31 ACT score, 2020 SAT (equivalent to 1430 on the new SAT) and 3.9 GPA.

    Non-Resident Achievement Awards
    -Students who apply for WUE will be automatically considered for all non-resident Achievement Awards. Awards range from $1,000 - $15,000 annually.

    Distinction Awards
    -Students who do not qualify for WUE or Achievement Awards are encouraged to submit an application for a Distinction Award.

    Note: WUE Awards are not stackable with Achievement Awards or Distinction Scholarships.
    No additional application required for WUE or Achievement Awards.

    -Early application is highly recommended.
    Montana University of Montana WUE Award
    2015-16 WUE recipients had an average unweighted GPA of 3.86 and test scores of either 28.4 on the ACT or 1855 on the SAT.

    Nevada University of Nevada, Reno Nevada Advantage Program (WUE Award)
    -3.0 GPA and 22 ACT or 1100 SAT or higher


    No additional application required.
    -Apply by February 1 (students are encouraged to apply early)
    Nevada University of Nevada, Las Vegas WUE Award
    California students must have an unweighted overall 3.5 GPA, or 24 ACT score, or 1160 SAT score (combined reading and math).
    -This scholarship is not guaranteed to all students who meet the criteria because of funding limitations.
    No additional application required.
    -Priority consideration is provided if the eligibility requirements are met and you are admitted by the November 1st deadline until scholarship funds expire.
    -Students are encouraged to apply for admission as early as possible.

    Oregon University of Oregon Apex Scholarship
    Scholarships are automatically awarded to out of state residents with:
    -Minimum 3.6 GPA
    -Minimum 1150 old SAT (math and critical reading scores only) or 1220 new SAT or 25 ACT

    Summit Scholarship
    Scholarships are automatically awarded to out of state residents with:
    -Minimum 3.80 high school GPA on a 4.00 scale.
    -Minimum test scores: 1190 old SAT (math and critical reading scores only) or 1260 new SAT or 26 ACT.
    -Out-of-state top scholars will receive $36,000 over four years — $9,000 per year.

    No WUE Award
    No additional application required.
    -Apply by January 15th.
    Oregon Oregon State University Golden State Scholarship
    Scholarships are automatically awarded to those California residents that exhibit varying levels of academic excellence.
    GPA Annual Awards
    3.00 - 3.49 $3,000
    3.50 - 3.59 $5,000
    3.60 - 3.749 $6,000
    3.75 - 4.00 $8,000

    -91% of Californa freshman received scholarship and/or gift aid in 2015-16 school year.

    WUE-Beginning in Fall 2021, Oregon State University will be a participating institution with the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) program.

    Residents of California may be eligible for tuition at 150% of resident tuition (renewable for 4 years):

    WUE Scholarships are competitive and awarded based on a holistic review of your application for admission. Only about 10% of students from a WUE state will be offered the WUE Scholarship, but many more will receive Provost Scholarships to reward them for their academic success and offset the cost of non-resident tuition.  Awards are only for new, entering students for Fall 2021 and beyond.

    No additional application required.
    -Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their admission application and their FAFSA in the Fall, as these awards are made on a rolling basis shortly following admission to OSU.
    -Application deadline for priority scholarshiop consideration is February 1.
    -Submit FAFSA by February 28th and you may qualify for additional funding based on your Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
    Washington University of Washington Purple and Gold Award
    Merit scholarship for out of state students. Can be renewed for all four years with good academic standing. Scholarship amounts range from $5,500-$8,500 annually.

    No WUE Award
    No additional application required.
    Washington Washington State University Cougar Academic Award (also known as WUE Award)
    -Students must have the right mix of high schools grades and standardized test scores.
    -$11,000 annual award is given to top university applicants.
    -Award can be renewed for up to three years (4 years of award total).
    -A small number of majors do not allow for the WUE/Cougar Academic Award.
    No additional application required.
    -Must have a complete admission application by the January 31st priority application date
    -Must enroll as a freshman at the Pullman campus.
